Bienvenue in the Loire valley a region known as the “Playground of Kings“. Start your journey at the chateau de Villandry where you have lunch at the chateau restaurant.
Then, while your trip leaders get the bikes ready we give you time for a visit of the chateau gardens. This 16th century treasure was bought in the early 1900s by Joachim de Carvallo who restored the gardens to their original Renaissance grandeur. Today, his grandson takes care of the domain. It includes a water garden, an ornamental flower garden and some vegetable gardens.
Following the visit you start the week with a pleasant ride through the countryside until you arrive at the chateau de Rochecotte an immaculate 18th century chateau also your hotel where a number of well known figure such as Balzac or Talleyrand stayed.
In the evening, enjoy your first dinner of the week.
Today’s Ride: 18 miles with 600 feet of climbing
Leaving your hotel you bike along the Indre River to arrive in Azay Le Rideau, a jewel of Renaissance architecture for a visit. The castle is famous for the fact that its base is right in the Indre river. That is why Balzac called it “a diamond cut in facets” and “framed” by the river.
Take a break in the town of Azay-le-Rideau.
You are back on your saddle and on your way to the Hotel Imago, which host you for the next two nights. You continue riding through the countryside, cycling by the chateau du Rivau, before reaching your hotel.
Today’s Ride: 46 miles with 2,000 feet of climbing
Short Option: 18 miles with 800 feet of climbing
Long Option: 54 miles with 2,300 feet of climbing
Pedal your way to the Château de Rigny Ussé, that Charles Perrault thought of when he wrote the fairy tale the Sleeping Beauty.
In the afternoon the kids have a fun time at an adventure Park and our leader is there to help. On the way back to your hotel you get to ride by the beautiful town of Chinon, well-known for its wines. There is a chateau there too, which you can explore. If you prefer to get to your hotel, you continue your riding to the hotel Imago, for some time off.
Tonight, head back to the town of Chinon for dinner.

Short Option: 18 miles with 1,200 feet of climbing
Long Option: 36 miles with 2,200 feet of climbing
This morning you embark on a short drive to your starting location. Today’s route is designed so that you get to discover one of the most visited and famous chateau in the Loire valley the chateau de Chenonceau. The Renaissance castle goes over the Cher River and boasts vast gardens, galleries, 16th century Flemish tapestries and paintings by famous painters like Rubens.
Catherine de’Medici and Diane de Poitiers were among the women who reigned here. Nowadays, the place is known as the “Chateau of Six Women.” You are delighted by a self-guided visit of this epic place.
In the afternoon, the kids go for a stunning canoe ride on the Cher river.
End the day in the town of Amboise. Once the headquarters of the Royal Court, this town is today well-known for its manor, Clos Lucé. Arrive at your hotel, Le Clos d’Amboise, a 17th century house converted into a 4-star character hotel.
Today’s Ride: 25 miles with 1,000 feet of climbing
Short Option: 15 miles with 600 feet of climbing
Leaving Le Clos d’Amboise, you take a easy ride through the country side before cycling by the chateau of Chaumont-Sur-Loire whose name means “bald hill,”. Founded in the 10th century by Odo I and rebuilt in the 15th century by Charles I d’Amboise, it is filled with the perfume of Catherine de Medici and the numerous astrologers she entertained here around 1560.
Following the visit you get back on your bike and arrive in Amboise once the headquarters of the Royal Court. This town is today well-known for its manors, including the Clos Lucé.
In the afternoon, you get to visit the Clos Lucé, where Leonardo Da Vinci spent the last four years of his life. It is also a museum that consists of models and designs conceived by the prolific scientist, including an airplane, a helicopter, a parachute and a turning bridge.
Tonight’s dinner is in the heart of town.

Short Option: 19 miles with 800 feet of climbing
Long Option: 45 miles with 1,600 feet of climbing
Enjoy breakfast at the Clos d’Amboise one last time before meeting up with your trip leaders. From here, a short drive to the train station of Tours marks the end of the tour and of this unforgettable trip through the Loire Valley region.
