Itinerary

Day 1: Meet your trip leaders in the Piedmont region before a tasting of Piedmont wine

Coazzolo to Santo Stefano Belbo (18 miles)
Welcome to the Piedmont region. Piedmont also called Piemonte is a region in northern Italy famous for its castles and wine towns. Meet your trip leaders in Turin, the capital of the Piedmont region and transfer to the town of Mango for a light lunch and introduction to the week. Then, get fitted on your bike and travel through Piemonte, Italy before reaching your luxury hotel, the Relais san Maurizio, a former monastery overlooking the wine region of Piedmont.

Day 2: Cycle to Costigliole d’Asti and participate in a wine tasting

Santo Stefano Belbo to Santo Stefano Belbo (27 miles)
Start the day with a gradual climb out of the hotel. From there, the rest of the day is a combination of rolling hills through the vineyards and across small Italian towns. Lunch is in Costigliole d’Asti. Should you need recommendations, don’t hesitate to ask your leaders. Later on, join us for a wine tour and tasting at what is considered to be one of the best and oldest producer of sparkling wine in Italy. The wine degustation is a dream come true for wine enthusiasts. In existence for about 150 years the wine domain has received many awards from various wine publications such as wine spectator. During the wine tasting, you learn about wine tasting basics as you swirl your glass of red wine.  End the wine tour with amazing pictures of the underground cellars and better understanding of the vinification process.

Day 3: Ride your bicycle through the Langhe and its vineyards on your way to Barbaresco

Santo Stefano Belbo to Monforte d’Alba (31 miles)
Cycle through the vineyards as you ride your bike to Barbaresco, a town in the heart of the Langhe. Once in town, take a walk and go try some Barbaresco wines at the enoteca communale. In the afternoon, continue cycling through the Langhe region, an area with gentle rolling hills covered with vineyards and vines. Later on, reach your hotel the Villa Beccaris located in the town of Montforte d’Alba and offering breathtaking views.

Day 4: Cycle through La Morra on your way to Barolo

Monforte d’Alba to Monforte d’Alba (29 miles)
Breakfast is served overlooking the surrounding hills. Then, meet with your trip leaders for a briefing of the day to come. Yesterday took you to Barbaresco and today takes you to Barolo, another well preserved medieval town. Cycle over small hills, as the Langhe is a hilly area. However, don’t worry our minivan is there for you in case you need support. Later on, meet with a winemaker for a tasting of Barolo wine at a famous Barolo winery. Learn about the history of Barolo wine and taste some of the best Barolo wines. Back on your bike, cycle through the town of la Morra.

Day 5: Look for the white truffle or Tartufo Bianco

Monforte d’Alba to Fossano (32 miles)
Even though you leave the Langhe hills behind you, the morning route still involves a significant amount of climbing. The good news is that the views are well worth the effort even though it isn’t the easiest or the shortest route of the week. The afternoon ride is much easier. Before dinner, you meet with your leader for a truffle hunting adventure. Start with a little history of the white truffles before going on a hunt! However, don’t expect to find a white truffle also referred as Tartufo Bianco as there are extremely rare.

Day 6: End your trip through the region in Turin

End of the trip
Even though the region of Piedmont is a challenging destination for recreation riders, we all agree that it is a region that is well worth the effort. End your week in Turin at the Torino train station. For those of you that are staying an additional day or two, don’t forget to check our recommended list of hotels in Turin.

*Please note that the mileage indicated above refers to the basic route, which is the one that 85% of our guests ride. However, we offer multiple daily routes and you may read more about it in the Activity level section below or by clicking the detailed itinerary button above.
