Bienvenue en Bourgogne! From the city of Dijon to the town of Beaune, our Burgundy bike tours take you cycling along the Burgundy canal and through endless acres of vineyards. Ride your bike along the canal de Bourgogne on your way to Chateauneuf en Auxois. Cycle through the Cote de Beaune, passing the villages of Meursault, Puligny Montrachet and Pommard. Ride through the Cote de Nuits, an area famous for its wonderful Grand Crus. Discover Vougeot and its beautiful Chateau located a few minutes away from Gevrey Chambertin. Whether you’re participating in a Pinot noir wine tasting, cycling through the Burgundy wine region or learning more about Burgundy wine, biking in Burgundy is a wonderful adventure.

Details of our Burgundy bike tours


Day 1: Welcome to Dijon and the Burgundy wine region before a ride along the Burgundy canal

From Ternant to La Bussière-sur-Ouche (16 miles)
Meet your leaders in Dijon, the home town of the Dijon mustard. From there, transfer to a restaurant located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region. During lunch your trip leaders give you a short introduction of the week to come as you toast with a glass of good Burgundy wine in hand. Get on your bike and make your way down to the Burgundy canal. Le Canal de Bourgogne is one of the most beautiful canals in France and is mostly used for Burgundy barge cruises during the summer time.

Day 2: Cycle to Chateauneuf en Auxois and the Chateau de Chateauneuf

From La Bussière-sur-Ouche to La Bussière-sur-Ouche (30 miles)
Leave your hotel, the Abbaye de la Bussiere and ride to Chateauneuf en Auxois, a medieval village where you have lunch. Sitting on a hill, it is famous for the 15th century Châteauneuf castle that overlooks the Burgundy canal. In the afternoon, ride through the Auxois region, an area dotted with charolais cows and made of green rolling countryside.

Day 3: Enjoy a wine tasting in the middle of the Vineyards

From La Bussière-sur-Ouche to Beaune (35 miles)
Today, you’re entering the area where all the famous Burgundy wines come from. The morning ride leads you to Savigny-lès-Beaune. Have lunch there and then meet with a wine maker to learn the inn and out of how cremant de Bourgogne is made. Start with the visit of the cellars and then enjoy a tasting of different cremants. Our wine host is there for you, so during the wine-tasting, feel free to ask anything that comes to mind. Take the time to enjoy the vineyards and vines that surround you as you ride toward your hotel. Check into your hotel in the center of Beaune, a medieval town surrounded by some of the world’s most famous vineyards.

Day 4: Ride through the Cote de Beaune and explore Meursault, Pommard and Puligny Montrachet

From Beaune to Beaune (31 miles)
Today, you travel south of Beaune and discover the Cote de Beaune, an area widely known for its Burgundy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. One of Puligny Montrachet most famous wine is Puligny Montrachet les Pucelles, a grand cru. In Meursault, you cycle through an area with no grand cru but with several highly regarded Meursault Premier cru wines. Finally, cycle through Pommard and by the chateau de Pommard. It was established in the 17th century and is surrounded by 20 hectares of walled vineyards. End your day cycling through a few more Cote de Beaune villages and participate in a wine tasting at a local wine domaine.

Day 5: Ride through the Cote de Nuit, famous for its Pinot noir and visit Gevrey Chambertin and Vougeot

From Beaune to Gevrey-Chambertin (37 miles)
Start the day with a self guided visit of the Hospices de Beaune, a former charitable almshouse with polychrome roofs. Then, jump on your bicycle and head to the Cote de Nuit and ride through some of the most famous grand cru vineyards of the Cote de Nuit. On the way, discover the Romanée Conti listed as one of the most exclusive wines in the world, Explore the town of Vougeot, famous for the chateau du Clos de Vougeot. Continue cycling all the way to the town of Gevrey chambertin only planted with pinot noir and famous for the Chambertin wine, a grand cru. In the end and after a day of cycling in the area, the characteristics of Pinot noir wine and the grand crus of Burgundy won’t have any more secrets for you.

Day 6: End your trip in Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wine

End of the trip
End the trip in Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. For those of you that are heading back home there are multiple trains each day from Beaune to Paris. For those of you that are staying a few more days in the Burgundy wine region, you may travel to southern Burgundy and discover the Cluny abbey or go taste wine from the Maconnais district (Pouilly-Fuisse). Before you leave Bourgogne and if have haven’t done so already don’t forget to try the beef Bourguignon.
