Details of our Czech Republic & Austria bike tours

Day 1: Meet your leaders in Vienna and cycle through the Wachau Valley, Krems and on the Danube bike path

From Senftenberg to Dürnstein (17 miles)
Welcome to Vienna! Meet your trip leaders in the city of Vienna also referred as the city of Wien. From there, your leaders drive you to a restaurant for a light lunch and introduction to the week to come. Get on your bike and start riding through the Wachau also called the Wachau valley. Cycle through Krems and pass many of the famous Wachau valley wineries. As you leave Krems an der Donau, you start biking along the Danube river and on the Danube bike path, all the way to the town of Durnstein.

Day 2: Bike along the Danube river on your way to the Melk Abbey before a wine tasting

From Dürnstein to Dürnstein (37 miles)
This morning, ride your bike along the Danube river. Don’t be surprised by how many people cruise on the Danube river as it is an extremely popular activity. The Danube is the 2nd longest river in Europe so it’s easy to understand why. Ride on a bike trail all the way to Melk, famous for the Melk Abbey, a Benedictine monastery also referred as Stift Melk. In the afternoon, ride through the vineyards covering the banks of the Danube. In the evening, participate in a wine tasting at a local wine domaine. During the wine degustation, try dry wines made from Riesling and other grapes varieties, which gives you a new appreciation of wine.

Day 3: Transfer to Czech Republic and ride to Cesky Krumlov

From Hluboká to Cesky-Krumlov (30 miles)
This morning, leave the Wachau valley castles and the Danube river behind as you transfer to Hluboka castle, one of the most beautiful chateau in Czech Republic. From there, bike to Holašovice, a typical town of Tcheque Republic and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch is on your own in this typical Bohemian town. In the afternoon, get back on your bike and ride to Cesky Krumlov, an other UNESCO site. In the evening, walk through Cesky Krumlov old town and find a restaurant. You may ask your leaders for recommendations if you really want to try local delicacies.

Day 4: Start cycling in the medieval town of Jicin

From Jcin to Mcelyn (40 miles)
This morning requires another minivan transfer. Shuttle to the town of Jicin. This medieval town was founded in the 12th century. Walk your way around the medieval city, while your leaders set up your bikes. It is a large town but you have plenty of time. Ride through the countryside before arriving at your hotel, Chateau de Mcely, a 5-star hotel with all the amenities you can dream off.

Day 5: Ride your bicycle to Detenice and visit a Brewery

From Mcely to Mcely (34 miles)
For you last day of cycling, get on your bicycle and ride a scenic and almost traffic free route. This means that you can ride along with your new found friends if you wish. Later morning, each rider arrives in the town of Detenice for a tour of a brewery. For lunch you may choose to be entertained by the waiters in medieval costumes and enjoy fire-roasted meat. Upon returning to your hotel, leave your bicycle accessories behind and enjoy a dip in the hotel pool or a massage at the spa. In the evening dinner is served at the hotel gourmet restaurant.

Day 6: End your cycling trip in Prague

End of the trip
Cycling is coming to an end this morning. Pack your cycling gear and head to Prague with your newfound friends. Your trips leaders drive you to the Prague airport but if you have time, we recommend that you stay a day or 2 over there to discover a city known as the city of 100 spires.

*Please note that the mileage indicated above refers to the basic route, which is the one that 85% of our guests ride. However, we offer multiple daily routes and you may read more about it in the Activity level section below or by clicking the detailed itinerary button above.
